You might have noticed that I haven’t written one of these in awhile.
In the past, this has been because I’ve gotten busy with work and life. This time, it’s been because I have been debating about whether or not I want to continue using Substack as a publishing platform, at all.
Today, I decided to officially make the change: I’m leaving Substack!
But I’m still going to be writing about compost. I’m just going to be doing it in a new place. My new newsletter-hosting platform is Beehiiv. Beehiiv feels spiritually akin to an earlier newsletter software that I loved, Tinyletter (RIP), in addition to being a little more straightforward for me to navigate than some of the other Substack competitors. Huzzah.
Some quick housekeeping regarding what this means for you:
If you’re a free subscriber, nothing will change at all. You’re still subscribed to my newsletter, I will just be sending it through a different platform.
If you’re a paying subscriber, I will be pausing your payments on Substack today. I can transfer your emails to a new platform, but I cannot transfer your payment information. (This is a good security feature, fwiw.)
Paying subscribers should receive a notification that their payment has been paused. This notification will come from Substack directly. If you don’t see this notification within the next 24 hours, make sure to check your spam. It can get trapped there sometimes!
I will work to rebuild on the other side. If you were once a paying subscriber, I hope I can convince you to become a paying subscriber again via Beehiiv. Subscription prices will remain the same: $3/month - $30/year. You can use ApplePay this time, though.
My new “subscribe” page is here.
Your support was significant, has meant the world to me, and is the reason I have been able to dedicate so much time to teaching, composting, and community action. Thank you. <3
If you have questions, hit me up by replying to this email. I will keep this account active for awhile, as I transition.
I’ve missed chatting with you all about compost and I can’t wait to keep things going on the other side.
With very much love,
Cass
I’ve enjoyed learning from you through your posts, Cass. Hopefully I’ll find my way to Beehiiv!
Sorry you’re going. It’s a healthy ecosystem, and you have a place in it.
