I agree 100% with your values about being responsible for our consumption and the waste that we generate. In my city (Boston) we now have curbside pickup of food scraps starting up, and it's good to see people participating, but in a way it is a little too easy to have a truck take your waste to that mythical place called "Away". I'm sticking with my backyard compost bin, where I can create topsoil to give away to my neighbors. Also, I can incorporate discarded cardboard, coffee grounds from restaurants, autumn leaves, and other stuff to get the kind of volume that makes composting work really well. I've also made bins for my neighbors so they can do the same, at their own pace. I call it "neighborhood composting" and it's a great community builder!
